The show addresses the theme of the importance of basic research in science. The 'Medicine of the Future' can only exist if society invests in research today without knowing whether it will then yield positive results (failure in science is very frequent) and in any case without having control over the timing of any positive results. This is the main didactic objective, a topic that we then address in the Q&A part at the end of the show. The show also tells about some innovative gene therapies that are already being used today to treat insidious diseases such as Epidermolysis Bullosa and diseases of the cornea. Viewers will thus be able to familiarise themselves with these techniques and appreciate the huge revolution that 'personalised medicine' is bringing to the medical field.
